Building 11
The Reception Building. Built in 1925, the reception building would play a key role in the hospital’s functions. This building is where everyone who was admitted to the hospital would be brought to be checked in. It served as the main medical building for the hospital, housing the hospital’s only surgical suites. An addition costing $418,827 was added to the Reception Building in 1960 to attempt to alleviate overcrowding in the hospital by adding 42 new beds. In later days, the building was used to house the more dangerous patients on campus. This building featured its own dining area, exam rooms, and dorm rooms so the more dangerous patients were not mixed in with the rest. The reception building was home to the medical testing laboratories and the morgue when the main pathology building was shut down.
