Ivyside Training School
This training school opened its doors in the late 1800's with 55 resident patients to start. It was one of the first of its kind in the United States, with only a handful of similar facilities established before it. During WWI, this facility played a role in creating US Army Intelligence Tests. The leaders of this institution all became famous for their strides in the study of "feeble-minded" individuals. The training school had an international reputation by the time WWII was over. Many industry standards were developed at this institution. At the time of deinstitutionalization, an out-of-state care facility purchased the entire complex to keep it from closing. This facility is responsible for the training school technically still operating to this day. The difference is that they operate out of one building, leaving every other building on this large campus in various states of neglect.
