Newark's Paramount Theatre
The Paramount Theatre in Newark NJ was one of the large iconic theatres that operated in this bustling city. Opened in 1886, it initially operated under the name of "H.C. Miner’s Newark Theatre" and managed by Hyde & Behman Amusement Co. The property switched owners in 1916 to Edward Speigel, who owned the nearby Strand Theatre. He put the building through a complete remodel by the hands of famous architect Thomas W. Lamb. It was not until further renovations in the 1930's that the theatre was named Paramount. The Paramount closed in 1986 as a result of skyrocketing insurance rates.
