Camp LaGuardia
Camp LaGuardia was initially the Greycourt Correctional Facility, opened in 1918. This correctional facility was designated for women only. In 1934, the facility was obtained by the city's Welfare Department and renamed Camp Greycourt. One year later, the name changed again to Camp LaGuardia. Camp LaGuardia was designed to provide temporary relief for unemployed and homeless. At the height of its life, the campus housed more than 1,000 homeless men from New York City. The site was closed in 2006 as part of the Mayor's plan to reduce the homeless population in New York City.
