Ocean Gaze Tuberculosis Sanatorium
This stunning cluster of old colonial and tudor revival buildings was proposed to be built in the year 1905. It was designated that the site be used for the purpose of a tuberculosis sanatorium. The sanatorium was opened in November of 1905. The hospital had nothing but good history through the years. In fact, this hospital was designated as the leader in treatment and caring of TB patients across the United States. It was the first TB hospital to have its own designated maternity ward. The research conducted at this hospital is responsible for ending the outbreak of TB across the US.
Much of the complex became abandoned when the epidemic stopped. The buildings slowly began to see life again as a rehabilitation center. Along with the rehabilitation facility the campus now houses a nursing home, independent living facility, and volunteer fire and ambulance services. The historic north grouping of buildings has so far evaded demolition but with the campus slowly coming back to life, they may not last for long.
