Secret Subway
This pedestrian subway concourse, originally built in the 1930's, was only in operation for approximately 40's before being closed down due to safety concerns. These tunnels served as a pathway for commuters to move between transit lines without having to walk outside in inclement weather. However, several news article make mention of mounting criminal activities, including the attack of a female officer, as well as complications with police radios not reaching their stations. This lead to the closure of the concourse and it was instead used as Philadelphia Police Transit Unit Substation for some time, until being abandoned yet again in the early-to-mid 2000's. This underground labyrinth is unique in that it also housed an air raid shelter filled with survival supplies.
