Briarcliff Mansion
This historic estate was constructed in 1922 on 42 acres of and in Atlanta, GA. This was the home of Asa Griggs Candler Jr, the son of Asa Griggs Candler. Candler Senior was the co-founder of Coca-Cola and his son helped build the business into what it is today. The mansion was built following Georgian Revival architecture and sat on 42 acres of land. The family sold the estate to the General Services Administration in 1948 who planned to use the property as a Veterans Hospital. This plan never came to light and the Georgian Clinic, the first alcohol rehab facility in GA, opened on the site in 1953. The facility was shut down just a few years later due to lack of funding. The final use of the property was from 1965 to 1997 when it was used by a nearby psychiatric institute. The mansion is currently abandoned but owned by a local University who monitors the property via camera.
